In the Fall, our librarian showed us how to use 2 online databases--GoGrolier and
WorldBookOnline--and a search engine--OneKey.
Trying out GoGrolier:
Learning about One Key:
We learned about wikis by exploring this one about Felix, the traveling rabbit. Our teacher showed us how to
update the wiki, and we helped her create the Morocco page.

During Reading Workshop, we studied non-fiction books and learned about their features.
Then, we learned how to determine the most important facts and take notes on them.
Exploring Non-Fiction:
This Winter we voted to write our class report about gorillas, monkeys, and chimps.
First, we needed to do research and take notes.
Researching Class Report with GoGrolier and Worldbook Online:
Next, we sorted our facts into chapters.
Sorting facts:
The chapters became our 3 new wiki pages:
Chimpanzees
Monkeys
Gorillas
Logging on to our own wiki accounts:
Then, we typed all of the research facts into the wiki pages. While revising, we decided to add sections like: Bodies, Habitat, Diet, Babies, and Other Facts to help keep things organized for our readers.
Next, we added pictures, links, and videos. We also copy/pasted the wiki pages into Word, so we could have a book
to print and take home.
Finally, we sent a publishing invitation to our school and asked for their comments. We appreciated
everyone who took the time to give us their feedback.
Inviting other students to our class wiki:
Comments from our readers:
Sharing the class wiki with parents and teachers on "I Writing Day":
In early Spring, we started working on our individual reports. After selecting an animal, we started to research.
Then we organized our facts into sections and created our own wiki pages.
